52 years ago today Rashied Ali and Coltrane met at the door of Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, as they did many times before.
But this time something was not completely the same. No one else was there. No signs of Alice no signs of Jimmy .
Rashied knew at that moment that it was going to be just Trane and him in the room.
No indications were given to the drummer about form, mood, tempo.
Rashied later recalled he asked "Is this going to be slow like a ballad?’ or ‘Is this going to be in a certain time, like 3/4 or 4/4?’ … Because, you know, he would just ring the bells, pick up his horn and start playing.”
Coltrane had complete confidence in Rashied's listening awareness and playing ability: “I can really choose just about any direction at just about any time in
the confidence that it will be compatible with what he’s doing,”he said .
The name of the tunes relate to the planets from the Zodiac circle. a subject Coltrane cherished and explored for a long time.
The result is a marvelous recording that inspired a lot of other playing for the sax/drums duo.

The Portuguese had a brutal record in the Americas as a colonial power. Today, Portugal is the Biggest Racist country that i have ever lived in. I feared for my life there and i consider myself lucky that my family got out alive! I have never lived in such poverty (Sopas dos Pobres everyday) 40% unemployment rate and 60% of the population earn less than $932 USD per month, and that’s considered Middle Class here! Within the European Union it is the worst of the worst place to live in.
The bottom line is the bulk of the People in the poor country of Portugal exist in a brainless comma that is fed by Ignorance, anti-Spanish hate, and severe Racism of pretty much everybody that isn’t Portuguese! And, Portugal started the Global Slave Trade in 1441 so it is definitely NOT a safe place for Blacks!!
